Message from the Gathering Chair: Rachel Kimball
Plans for the 6th daCi National Gathering "Open Space" are in full swing. You won't want to miss out on this unique daCi offering, where in three action–packed days you will dance to your heart's content. You will experience many different forms of dance, create dances and make new friends with people of all ages from all over the USA. If you love to dance, and want to share your passion with others that feel the same way, then please join us in Salt Lake City, July 26–29, 2017 at the beautiful University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Check-in will begin the afternoon of Wednesday, July 26th. That evening we will commence the Gathering with a celebratory Food Truck Meet and Greet Party. We will mingle together, greeting old friends and making new acquaintances. After the Meet and Greet, we will stay together for an official daCi welcome and performance. Then we will all dance together before heading off to get a good night's sleep to prepare us for the busy days ahead.
Each day we will work together in skill and modern dance technique determined by age. We will experience multi-generational classes, where we will explore, investigate, create and connect. Two master teachers, expert in facilitating the creative process of dance making, will lead each group. These same multi–generational classes will meet again in the afternoon, where dance work inspired by "Open Space" will be created. These multigenerational dance works will be shared on Saturday afternoon.
We will also have the opportunity to experience cultural dances each afternoon to round out our "Open Space" experience.
On Thursday July 27 and Friday July 28 performances will take place on the University of Utah Campus by participants, and invited local groups. The choreography presented will address the conference theme "Open Space." These performances provide a wonderful opportunity to share the dance work we create locally with a national community. Further details about performance application and technical requirements will be available soon.
On the last Saturday evening of the Gathering, after the final sharing, We will gather together for our final Celebration and daCi Banquet. Departure day is Sunday, July 30. Participants may decide they want to stay on a few days and enjoy all that Salt Lake City and the surrounding area has to offer.
